 1. JD(S) head HD Devegowda announced that he would fast at the Jantar Mantar in Delhi as he was not given an opportunity to raise farmer suicides issue in the Lok Sabha. The former prime minister said that he had given a letter to Lok Sabha Speaker to allow discussion on the issue as there have been incidents of farmer suicides across the country. 2. President Pranab Mukherjee will be visiting Mysuru on a two-day trip to Karnataka. The President is here to commemorate the centenary celebrations of University of Mysore. The University was founded during the reign of erstwhile King of Mysore, Nalwadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar. Governor Vajubhai Vala and Chief Minister Siddaramaiah will be receiving the President at the airport. 3. The number of farmer suicides in Karnataka continues as 14 more farmers ended their lives on Saturday and Sunday across the State. In Tumakuru district, a couple committed suicide as they were unable to handle the pressure from lenders. The couple leave behind an eight-year-old child. Three more farmers committed suicide in Mandya district. 4. The Special Investigation Team (SIT) officials on Sunday detained Lokayukta Joint Commissioner (PR) Syed Riyaz as he is alleged to be involved in the multi-crore bribery racket in the Lokayukta. He is the first Lokayukta official to be arrested. The Registrar of the anti-corruption bureau had stalled his application seeking extension of leave, on technical grounds. 5. The Congress government is hopeful that Governor Vajubhai Vala will give assent to the BBMP Restructuring Bill as the draft Bill was structured as per his suggestion, a Deccan Herald report said. The Governor had refused to give approval to split the Bill when the government had taken the ordinance route previously.
