The Madhapur police in Hyderabad on Tuesday arrested Tollywood actor Krishna Reddy alias Samrat Reddy, after his wife, 29-year-old K Haritha Reddy, filed a case against him.
The duo married in 2015 but had been separated after the actor allegedly harassed Haritha for dowry.
In her complaint, the victim alleged that Samrat Reddy and his sister trespassed into Haritha's house, and stole several belongings including CCTV cameras.
“Harshitha was staying at Samrat’s flat based on the agreement they had after they got estranged. On January 13, when she went on a vacation, he and his sister came to the flat and took away CCTV cameras and other valuables...the case was booked at Madhapur police station on January 25, a day after the court granted Samrat anticipatory bail in the dowry harassment case," Madhapur Inspector R Kalinga Rao was quoted as saying.
ToI reported that Samrat had been booked under Section 448 (Housetrespass), 427 (Mischief causing damage) and 380 (Theft in dwelling house) of the IPC.
Samrat has filed a bail petition in the court, which will come up for hearing on Wednesday.
Last year, the actor played a role in Kittu Unnadu Jagratha, which starred Raj Tarun as the male lead.
One of the actor's most famous roles was in Panchakshari, alongside Anushka Shetty, where he played her husband.
In another case in Tollywood earlier this month, well-known singer Ghazal Srinivas was caught in a sexual harassment case.
Ghazal Srinivas, whose real name is Kesiraju Srinivas, was arrested on January 2, on charges of sexually harassing a woman, working as jockey for a web radio 'Alayavani' (voice of temples) run by Save Temples Organisation.
Police filed the case against him on the basis of video evidence provided by the 29-year-old complainant. Police have several video clippings to prove that Srinivas was sexually harassing woman at the workplace. In one of the videos leaked to media, Srinivas is seen being massaged by a woman employee.
