Telangana Joint Action Committee (TJAC) chairman Prof. Kodandaram is all set to officially contest the upcoming elections and will announce the name of his new political party on April 2.
According to reports, the Election Commission approved the name 'Telangana Jana Samithi' (TJS) and the outfit will take on the ruling-TRS in Telangana during the 2019 elections.
“We will announce the party’s name, symbol and flag on April 2. The party’s agenda will be announced in the public meeting to be held in Hyderabad on April 29. There is a need for a new party as the TRS government has failed to fulfill the aspirations of people who fought for Telangana for six decades. The tagline of Telangana agitation was water, funds and jobs but TRS government has miserably failed to ensure these three in its four year rule,” Prof Kodandaram was quoted as saying.
The TJAC also shared a post on social media, with three designs for a party flag, that would reflect the aspirations of the outfit.
All three designs have the symbol of a wheel, which is a reference to the Telangana martyr's memorial, to honour those who gave up their lives in the struggle for a separate state.
According to reports, the centre of the wheel is surrounded by lines, which denote the people of Telangana, followed by Telangana women playing Bathukamma.
The flag options come in two colour combinations; Blue and green, and purple and a lighter shade of green.
Kodandaram played an active role in the Telangana struggle for separate statehood as head of the TJAC and was one of Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao's biggest supporters. Today, he is considered one of KCR's most vocal critics.
The two politicians have traded barbs on several occasions since then, and the Telangana police has repeatedly foiled several protests and marches organised by the TJAC.
