A TV viewer wakes up to his morning tea/coffee on a Sunday, hoping to find programming on the lines of a car and bike show, the review of the latest gadget, or a food trip across Europe.On June 14, they woke up to a belligerent Arnab Goswami on Times Now, demanding for the resignation of External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj.The channel put out a series of leaked emails which trailed back to former IPL commissioner Lalit Modi, who is under the Enforcement Directorate’s (ED) scanner. Goswami called for Swaraj’s head, accusing her of aiding a fugitive from the law. On her part, Swaraj tweeted that her decision was taken citing a “humanitarian view”.While Times Now questioned the ethics of her actions though, a battle on media-ethics was playing out away from the din of newsrooms on Twitter. And as Times Now questioned Swaraj’s propriety, its own modesty was being questioned.The channel laid claim to the “exclusive newsbreak” while several journalists from the India Today group first took to social media to remind Times Now that the story had been reported first by the Sunday Times in the UK.When I first visited Fox News in U.S. I thanked my stars that India didn't have such crazies.
