For the past two days, TV media circles have been abuzz with rumors of a major editorial change in Times Network, that Times Now's Editor-in-Chief (and the nation's chief question-master) Arnab Goswami will be taking over as the editorial head of ET NOW as well. ET Now, the English business TV news offering from the Times Group, was launched in 2009 to challenge CNBCTV18, which was then the undisputed market leader in the English business news sector. ET Now is currently headed by R Sridharan, the Managing Editor. Other senior editors include Shailendra Bhatnagar, Nikunj Dalmia, Supriya Shrinate and Sandeep Gurumurthi. It is now rumored that Arnab could supersede the present editorial staff. Others suggest that he could only be a nominal head, and that the channel will continue working as it is now, without Goswami monitoring it on a daily basis. This is being seen as a promotion for Goswami, who is now facing saturation in his role as the top man at Times Now. This possible move comes ahead of the annual performance review ritual in TN which happens around this time every year. Sources in the ET Now newsroom say that the announcement could upset the present system and there could be a wave of resignations following Goswami's rumored takeover, especially if he is given a hands-on role in editorial operations. ET Now staff have heard other rumors too in the past few weeks, including one that former CNBCTV18 bigwigs like Udayan Mukherjee could be brought in to take over. But with more senior voices saying that Goswami becoming chief could be a reality, reporters and editors in ET Now are a worried lot. Goswami's take over of the business channel could mean a major overhaul of the channel, one which might work out well for the cash books, but not so much for the present team.
