Actor Vijay’s Sarkar has struck gold at the box-office. Despite opening to mixed reviews, the AR Murugadoss directed political drama has zoomed past Rs 100 crore club in just two days. On its release day, the film grossed a whopping Rs 30.5 crore in Tamil Nadu alone.

Reliable sources confirmed that Sarkar went on to gross around Rs 60 crores on its first day worldwide.

The movie had a simultaneous release in Telugu as it was dubbed and released on the same day. The Telugu dubbing rights of the film were sold for a price of Rs 7 crores. The film opened to the first-day share of around Rs 2 crore and it has collected a distributor share of near about Rs 6 crore by the end of Friday. This is exceptional for a Vijay starrer in Telugu speaking states in comparison to the ones that have come out in the past. With this, the Telugu version is on its way to becoming a hit.

It has also surpassed Vijay’s 2012 Snehithudu, the Telugu remake of Nanban, that made Rs 6.50 crore share. His last outing was Mersal that was released in Telugu as Adirindhi and did well at the box office.

Sarkar has two female leads – Keerthy Suresh and Varalaxmi Sarath Kumar – in the star cast. Those in the supporting roles include Arjun Sarja, Prem Kumar, Yogi Babu, Radha Ravi, and Pala. Karuppiah.

Oscar-winning music composer AR Rahman has scored music for this magnum opus with lyricist Vivek penning the lyrics. Girish Gangadharan wielded the camera and A Sreekar Prasad edited the film. Produced by Sun Pictures, the film’s fate relies heavily on how it performs over the weekend everywhere.
