The News Minute | October 25, 2014 | 9.07 am IST Smita Sabharwal a first secretary level officer in the Telangana government has been provided gunman protection by the state government. Sabharwal who joined the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) in 2001 is currently the Additional Secretary to Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrashekara Rao. She is also the first lady officer to be appointed in the Chief Minister’s office in Telangana. However, what has raised eye brows for many is the fact that only the Chief Secretary, the highest ranking IAS officer in a state, gets gunman protection. Although such a status being awarded to this officer has been questioned by political observers and opposition parties, sources in Telangana CM told The News Minute that other secretaries of the CM have been given protection too. She had requested the CM for a gunman and she was obliged instantly, AP Today reported. She had earlier served as the District Collector and District Magistrate in Medak and Karimnagar districts.
