Telangana CM KCR sacrificed people's interest by advancing Assembly polls: Congress

Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) Chief Spokesperson Dr Sravan Dasoju on Saturday ridiculed the claims being made by caretaker Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, wherein he claimed that he had sacrificed power for the sake of the people of the state.

Addressing a press conference at Gandhi Bhavan in Hyderabad, Sravan alleged that by advancing Assembly elections, TRS has not only imposed an additional burden on public exchequer, but also created a huge obstruction in the development of Telangana.

The Congress leader pointed out that KCR had submitted a representation to Law Commission Chairman BS Chowhan on July 6, backing the Centre’s proposal for simultaneous polls to the Assembly and the Lok Sabha.

Questioning the rationale behind TRS changing its stand, Sravan also played a video clip of TRS MP Vinod Kumar where he was seen explained KCR's stand on simultaneous polls for Assembly and Lok Sabha.

“Ironically KCR took a U turn within two months and on September 6, dissolved the Assembly on the pretext of political fragility, enforcing two elections within a span of 2 to 3 months, causing a huge burden on the state exchequer and deprival of development for almost 9 months. It only shows the height of hypocrisy. KCR has sacrificed people's interest just for his own political gains,” Sravan said.

“KCR had earlier contended that separate elections for Assembly and Lok Sabha resulted in a waste of time and resources and also increased the expenses of political parties and the development process was affected due to imposition of Model Code of Conduct twice. Despite making such tall claims, KCR dissolved the Assembly almost nine months ahead of the scheduled polls. The Chief Minister has failed to explain the reasons that forced him to impose early Assembly polls on people of Telangana. There was no logic behind holding Assembly and Lok Sabha elections within a gap of four months,” the Congress leader added.

Sravan also claimed that KCR sensed a ‘humiliating defeat’ if elections were held on time and accused the TRS of failing to implement a single major electoral promise.

KCR was also worried over the rising popularity of Congress party among masses, Sravan added.
