Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao on Tuesday backed the decision taken by state Assembly Speaker Madhusudhana Chary to disqualify two senior Congress legislators due to their unruly behaviour during Governor ESL Narasimhan's address at the joint session the previous day.

Stating that the dignity and decorum of the House must be maintained, KCR also warned opposition parties against disrupting the proceedings, while launching a scathing attack on the Congress.

“The justification that we didn’t mean to attack the Council Chairman, but the Governor, is deplorable. If they have any objection to the Governor's speech, they can raise it during the debate in the House. They can lodge their protest in a democratic manner in various forms. But resorting to attacks is not acceptable,” KCR told the House.

Speaker Madhusudhana Chary announced the disqualification of Komatireddy Venkat Reddy and S.A. Sampath Kumar. They stand expelled from the House for the rest of the period of the current Assembly which is the first since Telangana became a separate state in 2014 and the term will last till April-May next year.

Eleven Congress members including floor leader K. Jana Reddy, were also placed under suspension for the current budget session that began on Monday.

Venkat Reddy was seen throwing headphones at the Governor when he was addressing the joint session on Monday. The headphone hit Council Speaker Swamy Goud which led to an eye injury.

Legislative Affairs Minister T. Harish Rao moved the motion for disqualification of the two Congress members under provisions of clause 3 of Article 194.

While the ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) and Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM) fully supported the action against the Congress members, the Bharatiya Janata Party floor leader G. Kishen Reddy objected to the suspension of some members like K. Jana Reddy.

Meanwhile, leaders from the Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) hit back, by leading a 48-hour hunger strike to protest the suspension of their legislators.

The Congress leaders also said that they plan to move the Hyderabad High Court against the suspension.

“The Assembly Speaker has no right to expel us from the House, unilaterally. We have decided to take legal recourse in order to get justice. We are holding talks with legal luminaries on how to effectively deal with this issue,” Komatireddy Venkat Reddy told reporters.
