The Andhra Pradesh police on Tuesday registered a case against sitting Vijayawada central MLA Bonda Umamaheswara Rao and his two sons, Siddarth and Ravi Teja, for allegedly assaulting an industrialist who was campaigning ahead of the simultaneous Legislative Assembly and Lok Sabha polls, which were held in the state on April 11.

According to reports, the police registered a case based on a complaint by Koganti Satyam, who alleged that Rao and his two sons had stopped him during a campaign in Devinagar on April 8 and threatened him with dire consequences if he did not listen to them. Satyam then approached the Ajit Singh Nagar police and filed a complaint.

Satyam said that he was campaigning for Malladi Vishnu, the YSRCP candidate, and also submitted video footage of the incident to the police for investigation.

“Umamaheswara Rao threatened me in full public view that he would kill me and those who are with me after the elections are over. He abused me in filthy language and threatened everyone by obstructing traffic for nearly 40 minutes,” the complainant was quoted as saying.

Following this, a case was registered against Rao, Siddarth and Ravi Teja under Section 341 (Wrongful restraint) and 506 (Criminal Intimidation) of the IPC.

The FIR was registered even as YSRCP chief YS Jagan Mohan Reddy on Tuesday met with Governor ESL Narasimhan in Hyderabad and filed a representation against the ruling TDP in Andhra Pradesh alleging misuse of official machinery.

Speaking to reporters after meeting the Governor, the Leader of Opposition said, “We have lodged a complaint with the Governor against Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu, who has appointed his own henchmen in crucial places to help TDP in all ways during the elections. TDP has resorted to attacks on the day of polling and later. Naidu has misused the police machinery and they are foisting false cases using people in the government.”
