The Telugu Desam Party (TDP) is all set to hold a massive public meeting in Tirupati on April 30, to highlight how Modi had 'failed on his promises that he had made exactly four years ago on that day.

Arrangements for the meeting have been made at the Sri Venkateswara University Grounds, the same spot where Modi had addressed a massive crowd before the 2014 elections.

At the time, Modi had assured the people that the BJP-government, if voted into power, would not only grant Special Category Status (SCS) but also extend it.

According to reports, the meeting has been dubbed 'Dharma Porata Sadassu' (Meeting Seeking Justice).

The TDP walked out of the BJP-led ruling coalition, the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in March this year.

In a related development, the chief opposition YSRCP alleged that the TDP was violating the model code of conduct, which was in place in Chittoor district, ahead of an MLC bye-poll for the Chittoor Local Authorities’ Constituency.

Senior YSRCP leaders met with chief electoral officer RP Sisodia and submitted a complaint on the issue.

However, speaking to reporters, TDP leaders said that there would be no display of banners and cutouts and added that they had taken all due permission to conduct the event.

Last week, the Election Commission of India (ECI) announced the date for the bye-poll in Andhra Pradesh and said that it would be held on May 21 between 8 am and 4 pm.

The bye-poll was necessitated by the death of Gali Muddukrishnama Naidu from the Chittoor local authorities' constituency on February 7.

As per the ECI schedule, the date of issuance of notifications was April 26 while the last date of nomination will be May 3.

The scrutiny of nominations will be on May 4 while the last date for withdrawal of candidature is May 7. The ECI also said the elections will be completed by May 29.
