BJP leader Subramanian Swamy in his latest remark, has said that a mosque is not a religious place but just a building that can be demolished any time.
Swamy said this at a function in Guwahati which triggered protests across Assam and even led to an FIR filed on him.
“A mosque is not a religious place. It is just a building. It can be demolished any time. If anyone disagrees with me on this, I am ready to have a debate on the issue. I got this information from people of Saudi Arabia,” he was quoted as saying on Friday night.
Swamy also cited the example of mosques demolished for construction of roads in Saudi Arabia.
A number of organisations in the state protested against the remark and burnt effigies of the senior BJP leader reported Hindustan Times.
However, Swamy stuck to his statement and took to twitter to share the link of an article by 'The Independent,' titled 'The photos Saudi Arabia doesn't want seen – and proof Islam's most holy relics are being demolished in Mecca.'
