In a bizarre incident, a Swedish footballer was sent off the pitch by a referee for farting during a match.
Already having received a yellow card earlier during the `match, the defender was given marching orders after he was booked for this 'offense'.
Accusing him of "deliberate provocation" and "unsportsmanlike behaviour," the referee showed 25-year-old Adam Lindin Ljungkvist, who was playing at the left-back position, a second yellow card.
The Guardian quotes the footballer as saying "I had a bad stomach, so I simply let go. Then I received two yellow cards and then red. Yes, I was shocked, it’s the strangest thing I have ever experienced in football. I asked the referee, ‘What, am I not allowed to break wind a little?’ ‘No,’ he replied … I don’t get it.(sic)”
Swedish newspaper Länstidningen Södertälje also quoted an opposition striker claiming that he could hear the fart "loud and clear," from a distance.
Meanwhile, the referee, Dany Kako, told the newspaper “I perceived it as deliberate provocation. He did it on purpose and it was inappropriate. Therefore, he received a yellow card”
