The Rachakonda police on Thursday arrested a 23-year-old man for attacking a girl with toilet cleaner, after she allegedly refused his proposal. The incident took place in Hayathnagar, and the accused had purchased the toilet cleaner assuming that it was acid.

According to police, the accused identified as Cheruku Shankar Goud working as a cab driver, threw the liquid at 19-year-old Jhansi at her residence, while she was going to her uncle’s place with her friend and mother.

Besides the girl, her mother and friend also suffered injuries and all of them are undergoing treatment at a private hospital. Hayatnagar Inspector K Satish informed that all of them were out of danger.

Police said the incident took place at around 10 pm.

According to Deccan Chronicle, the accused and the victim were known to each other at the workplace. While the victim was working as a domestic help, the accused was a driver at the same place.

Though they were in a relationship for a brief period, the victim had quit her job at Dilsukhnagar where she met Shankar, and she then started avoiding the accused.

She took a job at a petrol bunk. Shankar then suspected her friend as the reason for their estranged relationship, for which he bore a grudge against the girl and intended to take revenge.

Speaking to Indian Express, the victim said, “I told him several times that he should convince his parents and come home and ask for my hand. He had been insisting that we elope and get married. I was reluctant and this is the outcome.”

Her mother, Dhanamma, who suffered injuries in the attack expressed concern over her daughter’s safety.
