A speeding car ran amok in Hyderabad's Langer Houz area in the early hours of Monday, hitting a policeman and leaving him dead.

According to the police, the incident happened between 5.30am and 6am when SI Krishnaiah was going for a morning walk near Tippu khan bridge. The area is known to host many walkers in the morning.

As the car lost control, there was chaos for a brief moment, as people ran in all directions, to dodge the car.

However, it hit the footpath, and also rammed into Krishnaiah. He was shifted to the Osmania General Hospital, where he was declared brought dead. No other injuries were reported.

The police said that a case has been registered and that the accused had driven away after the incident.

The police are examining CCTV footage, and expect to nab the accused soon.

Further details are awaited.

Just last month, a rogue truck hit six morning walkers at Kukatpally, killing one on the spot and grievously injuring the rest.

Local residents were reported to be out for a walk near the IDL bridge at around 6am, when the speeding truck ran over them.

All of them were rushed to the hospital.
