With projects such as 2.0, Indian 2, Kolamavu Kokila and Chekka Chivantha Vaanam in their kitty, Lyca Productions is undoubtedly one of the most sought-after production companies in Tamil filmdom.

On July 31, the company revealed that it has bought the Tamil remake rights of Pawan Kalyan’s blockbuster Telugu film Attarintiki Daredi, written and directed by Trivikram. Lyca took to Twitter make the announcement and thanked Trivikram for the opportunity. “We are very happy to announce that we have acquired the Tamil remake rights of the mega Telugu blockbuster Attarintiki Daredi! More exciting updates on this coming up.”

The production house on Tuesday announced that Simbu will be teaming up with director Sundar C for their next venture. The shooting is expected to begin soon and the team is planning to release the film in January 2019.

Released in 2013, Attarintiki Daredi is the last known blockbuster in Pawan Kalyan’s career. The story follows a grandson, played by Kalyan, who promises to his grandfather to help him reconcile his relationship with his estranged daughter.

Soon after the release of the film, rumours made the rounds that Vijay might star in the film’s remake. According to the industry grapevine, the project is most likely to take off with Simbu in the titular role. Filmmaker Sundar C, whose last film was Kalakalappu 2, is said to have been signed to direct the project.

Simbu, having recently wrapped up his work for Mani Ratnam’s Chekka Chivantha Vaanam, is currently getting ready to commence shooting for Venkat Prabhu’s political thriller Manaadu. Lyca Productions, meanwhile, are busy with the production of Suriya 37, which they’re bankrolling on a lavish budget.

The film marks the third time collaboration of Suriya and KV Anand after Ayan and Maattraan. The yet-untitled film also stars Arya, Mohanlal and Sayyeshaa in key roles. Lyca also has Dhanush’s Vada Chennai which follows 30 years in the life of a gangster from North Madras. The teaser of Vada Chennai, directed by Vetrimaaran, was released last week and it was extremely well received.
