Senior journalist and former editor of The Hindu Siddharth Varadarajan is all set to launch a news website called The Wire.  According to a report in Mint, the new website is to be called The Wire and will be a news website with a focus on politics, foreign policy, development, science and political economy. The new website has tied up with PTI and IANS news agencies for content. Columnist with The Asian Age Sidharth Bhatia will be a co-founder of the website while Raghu Karnad, former editor of Time Out Delhi, will be contributing editor. Varadarajan has invested around Rs 6 lakh in the new website and he and Bhatia are expecting to raise Rs 10-12 crore in the next six months. Varadarajan told Mint that several writers and philanthropists had expressed their interest in investing in the website, but did not disclose any names. Varadarajan resigned as Editor of The Hindu in October 2013, after the owners decided to revert to its earlier practice of having editors from within the family. The Wire will be the latest in a number of websites that have been launched in the recent past, such as Scroll, The Quint (Raghav Bahl), Catch (Shoma Choudhary).
