A clear violation of child rights at a Telangana hostel has been caught on camera. Two young boys were made to stand upside down by a hostel warden, who holds what appears to be a long pipe in his hand. The boys have their feet against a wall, and their palms on the ground. When one of them slips and falls, the warden hits him with the pipe twice, until he resumes his upside down position.

A while later, the boys are standing upright, and the warden hits them again with the pipe.

The shocking video is making the rounds of social media, and according to reports, the incident happened at a District ST hostel in Zaheerabad.

The man in the video has been identified as hostel warden S Yadaiah. The students – both in Class 7 – were reportedly punished for not attending classes regularly.

Shockingly though, no case has been filed by the police with regard to the incident yet, despite video evidence. Zaheerabad CI, Nagaraju told TNM that they haven’t filed a case as there isn’t a formal complaint about the incident yet.

Despite several attempts, the hostel warden remained unavailable to comment on the issue.

Speaking to TNM, child rights activist Achyuta Rao, president of Balala Hakkula Sangham, said that his organisation is planning to approach the State Human Rights Commission over the issue.

“It is absolutely shocking. More visuals of the incident would be revealed to the media soon. Punishing the students is an offence. How can anyone punish the students so harshly. Strict action should be taken against the accused,” Rao said and added, “We are gathering more videos, which we will present before the SHRC.”

In a similar incident, recently, a five-year-old student was thrashed mercilessly by his class teacher in Hyderabad. The student suffered bleeding due to the injuries.

After the parents approached police, a case was booked against the teacher and she was taken into custody.

Last year in February, 30 Class 10 students were brutally beaten up by their teacher in Nagarkurnool for failing and scoring poor marks in the test. The video of the incident was released, following which the accused teacher was suspended from services. The incident sparked wide outrage.
