The Supreme Court has directed two private medical colleges in Karnataka, BGS Institute of Medical Sciences and KIMS, Bangalore, to surrender their seats to the state government, states a report by The New Indian Express.
KIMS and BGS Institute of Medical Sciences will have to surrender 30 and 150 seats respectively.
The directives were given by the Apex court while hearing a petition by BGS Institute of Medical Sciences and KIMS challenging the Medical Council of India's (MCI) refusal to renew their affiliation for the current year. The colleges were given conditional approval in 2013-2014, but the MCI rejected to renew their affiliation following their failure to fulfill certain conditions, further adds the report.
