Neyyatinkara Deputy Superintendent of Police B Harikumar, who was accused of pushing 32-year-old Sanal Kumar to death, was found dead at his residence in Kallambalam in Thiruvananthapuram. Harikumar was absconding since the incident on November 5. The Kallambalam station confirmed the death and said he was found hanging at his house.

Sanal’s wife Viji and family had started a hunger strike at Kodungavila, where Sanal met with the accident, on Monday, demanding the arrest of Harikumar. However, soon after the news of the DySP’s death broke, the family ended the protest.

B Harikumar had been on the run since the death of 32-year-old Sanal Kumar, who died last week following an altercation with him over a parked vehicle. During the argument, Harikumar pushed Sanal on the road, after which he was hit by a fast approaching car, said witnesses.

Soon after the incident, Harikumar, along with his friend Binu, fled the scene, while the ambulance carrying an injured Sanal Kumar first went to the Neyyattinkara police station instead of the hospital. Harikumar was suspended following the incident and a case was registered against him under IPC Section 302 (punishment for murder).

The Kerala police had on Saturday night arrested two persons in connection with the case. Anup, who is the son of Binu, the second accused in the case and a close friend of DySP B Harikumar, was arrested after a two-hour long interrogation. Anup has been accused of booking a cab for Harikumar and Binu to escape, quickly after the incident.

Earlier on Saturday, the Kerala police had arrested B Harikumar's close friend Satheesh Kumar, from Tirparappu, in Tamil Nadu, for allegedly aiding their escape and provided them with new sim cards as well.
