Actor-filmmaker Samuthirakani’s next major release will be superstar Rajinikanth’s Kaala, in which he is playing the right-hand man to the star.

Best known for helming films such as Naadodigal, Appa and Thondan, Samuthirakani is currently wrapping up work on the sequel to Naadodigal with Sasikumar in the lead. Samuthirakani had said that love and friendship will be the recurring theme of Naadodigal 2. Bharani and Namo Narayana, who were part of the first film, have been brought on board as well. The story’s focus will not be on who is paired opposite whom, but on each of these characters and how they become linked. The film’s characters will be representative of contemporary youngsters.

On the occasion of Tamil New Year, director Seenu Ramaswamy revealed that he is teaming up with Samuthirakani next for a yet-untitled project.

“Samuthirakani and I have decided to work together for our next film (sic),” he tweeted in Tamil. This will be the first time the duo will be joining hands, but the details about their new project is yet unknown. Sources close to the National award-winning filmmakers have revealed that the project will go on the floors in June.

Seenu is currently busy with the Udhayanidhi Stalin starrer Kanna Kalaimanne, titled after the popular song from Kamal Hassan’s Moondram Pirai. The film marks the first time collaboration of Udhay and Seenu, whose last outing was the Vijay Sethupathi starrer Dharma Durai. Udhay is paired with Tamannaah Bhatia in the project, which was predominantly shot in Madurai and wrapped up in three months flat. Yuvan Shankar Raja has been roped in to compose music.

Meanwhile, Vijay Sethupathi and Seenu will be joining hands for the fourth time for a project titled Maamanidhan, which will be produced by Yuvan Shankar Raja. For the first time ever, the film will see three composers from the same family join hands. A day after he was conferred the Padma Vibhushan earlier this year, it was confirmed that Ilayaraja will team up with his sons Yuvan Shankar Raja and Karthik Raja to score music for Maamanidhan, which would feature Vijay Sethupathi in the role of a politician. Yuvan shared the news on Twitter on the occasion of Republic Day.
