After full screen display, what next? Foldable smartphones, it seems like. If Samsung has its way, you may see a smartphone that you can fold and tuck inside your pocket or a wallet.

Though complete specifications of the phone have not emerged, some rough description has been disclosed through agencies in South Korea where the company has applied for approvals. Named the Samsung Galaxy X now, it may be launched in some other name or under the Note brand as well.

It may be 2018 or 2019 by the time the smartphone with the new design and technology is physically launched in the market. For the record, Samsung has managed to obtain a certificate from the Korean National Radio Research Agency (NRRA). The foldable phone design was spotted on a couple of other agencies as well.

The company says the production of the device may begin by the end of this year, there are still some technical/ technological issues to be resolved. If the product is successfully manufactured and released for public use, it may pave the way for other devices like tablet hybrids to also adopt the technology. The real challenge is to make the device as thin as possible to avoid the phone to be bent along its height.

As of now, there are no other details available either officially or through leaks which is a common practice when such new devices are under development. Possibly, more information may follow in the days to come.
