The News Minute | January 20, 2015 | 12.30 pm ISTBilled as one of the biggest mass runs ever held in the country, lakhs of people including cricket icon Sachin Tendulkar participated in the state-wide 'Run Kerala Run' (RKR) on Tuesday.The event, which was held as a prelude to the 35th National Games, was flagged off by Governor P Sathashivam and led by Tendulkar. Even Chief Minister Oommen Chandy participated in the run along with his colleagues in government such as Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala and Sports minister Thiruvanjoor Radhakrishnan.In Kochi the mass run was flagged off by actor Mohanlal. Many politicians and celebrity cricket team members also took part in RKR Kochi.Sachin, who has been the chief guest of the mass event, has asked Keralites to thrive for the success of National Games as the state is going to host it after 28 years.“I cannot forget the support you have given to Kerala Blasters, same support should be given to National games” he told media.The run has organised to express the state's unity and solidarity with the January 31-February 14 National Games, being hosted by Kerala after a gap of 28 years.Similar runs were held in over 10,000 centres across the state simultaneously. According to the sports minister there were 21 mega run points, 226 mini mega run points, and thousands of ordinary points are arranged for the event.
