Filmmaker Roopesh Peethambaran’s post on a social networking site taking a jibe Richie, the Tamil remake of the Kannada hit movie Ulidavaru Kandante, has not gone down too well with film buffs, particularly Nivin Pauly fans.

Roopesh had posted on his Facebook page, “It’s pretty hard to imagine how a masterpiece turned into a piece.”

Not happy with this comment, the makers of Richie have filed a complaint against him at the Kerala Producers Association. And in retaliation, Roopesh Peethambaran has threatened legal action against everyone who has tarnished his image, including Vinod Shornur, Anand Payyanur, Nivin Pauly and some media outlets.

In a report published by the Times of India, he had reportedly said, “I will be moving the court and seeking damages for tarnishing my image. It will be against the media outlets as well as Vinod Shornur, Anand Payyanur and Nivin Pauly.”

It may be mentioned here that Roopesh had apologised for his post but the producers of the film decided to take the matter to the Producers Council following a drop in the box office collections attributed to his negative comments.

His Facebook post later read, “I realize that impulsive reaction was a mistake which hurt a lot of people. That was never my intention. I apologise for the pain I may have caused due to this. I am sorry.”

Directed by Gautham Ramachandran, the film is the remake of the Kannada hit movie, Ulidavaru Kandanthe, written and directed Rakshit Shetty. The film stars Nivin Pauly in the lead role with Natarajan Subramaniam, Shraddha Srinath, Lakshmi Priyaa Chandramouli, Prakash Raj, Raj Bharath, Tulasi, Aadukalam Murugadoss, Elango Kumaravel, G. K. Reddy and Bhargav Ramakrishnan in supporting roles. The film is produced by Anand Kumar and Vinod Shornur under the banner CAST N CREW.
