Chennai city has a very vibrant stand-up comedy scene. The city also has no dearth of stand-up comedy shows that will make you double up with laughter. But there are only a handful ways in which you can sustain that momentary happiness even after the show.

Madras Round Table 1 (MRT 1) is organising a fundraiser Comedy Show – Chennai Laughs 2018 – in aid of The Spastics Society of Tamil Nadu (SPASTN). To be held at ITC Grand Chola Hotel on March 17, the show features comedian Kanan Gill who recently released his one-hour comedy special on Amazon Prime.

The comedy night will also feature comedian, actor, voice artiste, screenwriter, and award-winning photographer, Jonathan Atherton. Karthik Iyer of HigherIyer fame who has come out of a 2-year comedy hiatus to perform specially because it’s Chennai, and Sundeep Rao, India’s only (partially) blind comic, will also be performing.

For over 36 years, The Spastics Society of Tamil Nadu (SPASTN) has been empowering children and adults with physical and mental disabilities, by providing a highly stimulating environment for their well being.

The money raised from the fundraiser will go towards building a therapeutic activity hall at the institute’s headquarters in Taramani, Chennai.

Jayashree, Director of SPASTN, is hopeful that the space will bring joy to thousands of children with cerebral palsy and neurological disabilities. “The hall will also be used to conduct workshops, seminars and will also be used for hosting other therapeutically enriching activities for the children,” says Jayashree.

MRT 1 is well known for its fundraising events and has raised resources for community service initiatives focused on children’s education and healthcare for over 60 years. Their annual fundraiser programs have enriched the lives of millions of underprivileged children.

Donor passes for the show are available on Bookmyshow. The show will be followed by a live band, cocktails and dinner.
