Three other girls were shot at, but the 9 mm country-made pistol used by the accused Mahesh, misfired.According to a report in The Hindu , Gautami’s aunt Rajeshwari demanded that the college be closed. She said that the college authorities told Gautami’s family that she had been injured after she fell down from the second floor. It was only through media reports that they learned that she had been shot dead. Gautami’s last rites were performed in Pavagada on Thursday afternoon. Her father T Ramesh lit the pyre to cremate the body.Another aunt, Nagaveni, was upset at news reports that tarnished her image by claiming that Gautami had a relationship with the accused Mahesh. The goof-upBengaluru Police had on Wednesday released a Daily Status Report (DSR) at around 10.30 am to the media, saying that “Gautami (who) had a relationship with Mahesh…” had been shot. In a couple of hours, the police issued another DSR titled “Corrected DSR” removing the reference to the “relationship”.Asked about the goof up on Thursday, Commissioner M N Reddi told The News Minute that it was “wrong”. He said that the information had made it to the DSR, but that it had “not been confirmed” at the time, and mistakenly released to the media. The police release a DSR to the media on a regular basis, providing information on various crimes registered across the city.
