The News Minute | July 4, 2014 | 6:09 PM IST On Thursday, a raid by the police in Palakkad district to inspect auto-rickshaw metres, eventually led to a full-fledged protest by a group of drivers, who took to the street resenting the action, and disrupted normalcy.The raid took place around 10:00 AM on Thursday, after police received complaints from several quarters that there are more than 6000 autos in the region which do rounds regularly without a proper permit and without using metres.Reports suggest that the enraged auto-drivers protested the move by halting other auto-rickshaws near the Town Stand area in Palakkad. Further they also asked the passengers, including children and really old citizens to get out of the rickshaw. This enraged the public as well, the clash between the drivers and the public eventually led to a road block.Once the authorities felt that he situation was getting out of control, the traffic Circle Inspector CR Pramod, another officer CR Haridas along with police troupes reached the spot. Senior officers then calmed tempers.
