BJP leader Subramanian Swamy, who had alleged that Congress Vice-President Rahul Gandhi had declared himself to be a British national, on Saturday said he had registered a complaint with Lok Sabha speaker Sumitra Mahajan asking to unseat Gandhi from the Parliament, reported The Indian Express.

"The Indian Constitution does not allow dual citizenship, so if Rahul Gandhi’s British citizenship is established then he cannot continue to be an Indian citizen anymore. Further, he should also be disqualified as an MP. The onus is now on him to prove that he is innocent," IE quoted Swamy as saying.

He also demanded that Rahul Gandhi should submit his passport and other relevant documents to the ethics committee of the Parliament, The Times of India reported.

Last week, Swamy had alleged that Rahul Gandhi had declared himself to be a British national with a UK address to the British authorities at least till 2009, thereby in violation of Indian law.

A private company called Backops has said that Rahul Gandhi’s nationality was shown as 'British' in the returns filed by the company for 2005 and 2006 but admitted that it could be a clerical error.

BJP leader Subramaniam Swamy had written to the Prime Minister asking him to strip Rahul Gandhi off his Indian citizenship and Lok Sabha membership. He had accused the Congress vice-president of operating the company Backops for defence kickbacks. He also demanded a CBI or ED probe into the matter.

Refuting the allegations against him, Gandhi had said, "They should throw me in jail if they find anything against me. I am not scared, I’ll keep fighting for the weak."
