As YSRCP government in Andhra Pradesh completed six months on Saturday, former Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu alleged that setting a new record in debt is its only achievement.

The Telugu Desam Party (TDP) president claimed that the Jagan Mohan Reddy-led government had stacked up Rs 25,000 crore in debt in six months.

"This means that every month, the government borrowed Rs 3,500 crore, but has not undertaken a single development work," the Leader of Opposition tweeted. He posted a report published in a Telugu daily that the state had set a new record in borrowing. Naidu wondered why the government had to borrow five times in the month of August.

He said that the YSRCP government, which raised such a debt, was accusing him of pushing the state into debt. "If you are incapable to govern, take the advice but don't burden the people with debt," he said.

Naidu's son and TDP General Secretary Nara Lokesh also took to Twitter, and said, "The first misstep that sounded the bugle for a string of failures of Jagan, was the demolition of Praja Vedika. In the first month itself, he showed his true self – a man with a factionist mindset and propensity to commit violence and destruction."

Several TDP leaders including Srikakulam MP Ram Mohan Naidu also lashed out at the YSRCP government.

After coming to power in May, YSRCP had alleged that Chandrababu Naidu during his five-year rule pushed the state into Rs 2.58 lakh crore in debt.

Releasing a white paper on the state's finances in July, Finance Minister B. Rajendranath Reddy had held Naidu responsible for the financial turmoil in the state

The TDP chief said that they wanted to give six months' time to the new government. "But from day one, it adopted a destructive approach. At a time when people are suffering, we in Opposition can't sit idle and hence on behalf of the victims we are fighting both legally and politically."
