Riva Solanki, the wife of current Chennai Super Kings and Indian all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja, was allegedly assaulted following a minor collision involving her car in Jamnagar, Gujarat, as reported by the local police.
The man in question is a local constable named Sajay Ahir, who has since been detained for questioning by the Gujarat police.
The incident occurred at the Saru Section road in Jamnagar when Riva allegedly made contact with the motorcycle of the constable who proceeded to assault her, said Jamnagar Superintendent of police Pradeep Sejul.
"The policeman physically assaulted Riva Jadeja after her car hit his motorbike. We are providing all possible help to her and will take strict action against the policeman,” he added.
Another man who was witness to the incident claimed that the policeman in question assaulted Riva Solanki “brutally”.
"The policeman mercilessly thrashed Reeva and even pulled her hair during an altercation. We saved her from his clutches," Vijaysinh Chavda told reporters.
Jadeja, who has been a mainstay in the Indian Cricket team for the better part of a decade now is currently playing in the Indian Premier League (IPL) with the Chennai Super Kings.
Chennai recently confirmed their place in the top four to put them through to the knockout stages of the tournament and then went one step further by managing to finish in the top two.
Chennai will face Sunrisers Hyderabad in the first qualifier on Tuesday, May 22. The winner will go directly through to the finals which will be held on Sunday. The loser will have another chance to make the final on Friday when they take on the winner of the clash between Kolkata Knight Riders and Rajasthan Royals.
