Actor Rashmika Mandanna, who is basking in the runaway success of Kannada film Yajamana, is believed to have been signed opposite Vijay in his next yet-untitled project, to be directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj.

Currently dubbed as Thalapathy 64, the film will mark the first time pairing of Lokesh and Vijay and the expectations around the project are already sky-high. Apparently, the makers have already approached Rashmika and she’s said to have given her nod in principal and is waiting to officially sign on the dotted line. The film is rumored to feature Vijay in the role of a gangster and it will be a very dark film, according to the industry grapevine.

There are reports that the announcement can be expected to be made on Vijay’s birthday next month. Vijay was last seen playing a corporate CEO in AR Murugadoss' Sarkar. The star is currently shooting for Thalapathy 63 with director Atlee.

The yet-untitled film will see him play a football coach in a women’s team. The film, being produced by AGS Entertainment, was officially launched last November in Chennai. Last month, a massive football set was built on a budget of Rs 6 crore.

The makers had originally planned to shoot in a real football stadium, however it was turning out to be a very expensive affair. Hence, the makers decided to build a set where they’ve shot for close to 40 days already.

Meanwhile, Vijay was recently trained by a special physical trainer to prepare for his role, and sixteen women will star as sports players in the film, which also stars Nayanthara, Jackie Shroff, Kathir, Yogi Babu and Vivek in crucial roles.

The film has music by AR Rahman and he had in a recent interview confirmed that the film will have a sports backdrop. It’s worth mentioning that AGS Entertainment had said in a statement that the film will be a pucca mass entertainer and will deal with a genre that will be first-of-its-kind for Vijay.
