The Chairman of the SC and ST commission, PN Vijayakumar, who visited the family of two minor sisters, who were allegedly murdered after raping in Wayalar of Palakkad district recently, said that there are serious lapses in the police investigation. The parents of the girls have been alleging since the beginning that the police tried to cover up the case.

As per The Times of India, the commission has also found serious lapses in primary investigation by the police. Earlier the Sub Inspector who did the primary investigation was suspended.

The post mortem report had said that the girls were raped multiple times and there were attempts fof ‘unnatural sex’ on both the girls. The younger nine-year-old victim was found hanging in their house two month after the death of her 14-year-old elder sister.

In relation with the case, police had arrested one of the relatives and a close friend of the girls’ father. Madhu (27) and Shibu (43) were arrested, and the police said that they were abusing the girls continuously. Madhu was staying with the family.

Sharanya (9) was found hanging on March 4 and Thripthika (14) her sister was found dead on January 12.

Initially police had hidden the fact that Thriptika was sexually abused and told media that there was nothing unnatural in her death. But ToI quotes the doctor who did post mortem, “We have informed the police in our postmortem reports that there was evidence of rape of both the girls on multiple occasions. There was also evidence of unnatural sexual assault on both the girls,” said Dr. PB Gujaral.

The girls’ parents alleged that police intentionally tried to prove that both of them committed suicide.
