Both director Sukumar as well as actor Mahesh Babu are basking in glory over their respective last releases – Rangasthalam and Bharat Ane Nenu doing well at the box office. News that the duo will be teaming up for a new project surfaced long ago and fans are waiting eagerly for more infomation on it. According to reports, Mahesh had okayed a script that director Sukumar has come up with. While the prep work for the film has begun, we hear that Mahesh Babu will be joining the sets after he is done with his current project, Maharshi.

On the lead opposite Mahesh Babu for this project, sources say that Rakul Preet Singh has been signed. Director Sukumar had worked with the actor in Nanakku Prematho and Mahesh Babu had paired up with her in Spyder.

While the Sukumar directorial is taking shape, Mahesh Babu has his full attention on Maharshi. Being his 25th film, it is a very important film in his career. Directed by Vamsi Paidipally, Maharshi is bankrolled jointly by Dil Raju, Ashwini Dutt and PVP. It is a high budget project with a major portion of it being shot in the United States. The film is about three friends, played by Mahesh Babu, Allari Naresh and Pooja Hegde. It also has veteran actor Jayapradha in a pivotal role. Reports say that Mahesh Babu will be appearing in five different get-ups in the film and that the transition of his character will be from a college student to an entrepreneur.

Maharshi, which was originally planned as a Sankranthi release, will now hit the marquee on April 9 next year. When the project began, it ran into some legal issues following which its shooting schedules went out of gear. This is one of the major reasons for its release date being pushed to April.
