Rajinikanth’s Baasha will be screened at the Fantastic Film Fest, one of the prestigious events in the US. The film’s digitally re-mastered will be screened much to the excitement of film buffs, particularly Rajinikanth’s fans worldwide. A statement from the organizers of the film fest points out that the classic action entertainer will be featured on September 24 and 26.
Baasha, which had Rajini play a meek auto driver and a fearless don, was one of the biggest hits in his career. The film has been directed by Suresh Krissna and presented by RM Veerappan and produced by V Rajammal and V Thamilazhagan under the banner Sathya Movies. Baasha was released on January 12, 1995 and its digitally restored version was out at the theatres on March 3 this year.
Starring Rajinikanth and Nagma in the lead roles, the film also had Raghuvaran, Janagaraj, Devan, Anandaraj, Shashikumar, Vijayakumar, Charan Raj, Kitty and Dhamu in the star cast. Deva had composed music for this film and the songs turned out to be big hits. PS Prakash has cranked the camera for Baasha with Ganesh Kumar editing it.
The punch line in Baasha “Naan oru tharavai sonna nooru tharavai sonna madhiri” delivered by the Superstar became popular among the masses and remains fresh in the minds of the fans till date.
There have been enough speculations about Suresh Krissna and Rajinikanth going ahead with a sequel to Baasha but it was felt that the sequel would never equal Baasha. However, the director was reported to have said that it may be born in an all-new avatar and there is a possibility of that happening.
