It’s going to be a long wait to see superstar Rajinikanth in the highly anticipated science-fiction action flick 2.0, whose release has been postponed once again. After missing out on the Diwali date, the makers of the magnum opus assured that the film will release during the Republic Day weekend next year. However, the latest update is that the film is being pushed to April 2018. Even though the makers haven’t made an official announcement regarding the delay in the release, reliable sources have validated the news and confirmed that a poster with a new release date will be issued soon. If you’re wondering what could be the reason behind the postponement of the release, it’s the exhaustive VFX work which is taking longer than expected.

“The VFX work is currently happening across 11 studios from around the world. It’s taking longer time than anticipated and since the makers don’t want to compromise on the output, they’ve decided to postpone the release. They’re looking to release it on April 14 to coincide with Tamil New Year Day. Even the distributors feel it’s a very good date,” a source said.

Directed by Shankar, the film marks the southern debut of Akshay Kumar, who plays the antagonist. Akshay plays a scientist who turns into a bird-man after an experiment goes awry. Akshay’s look in the film was highly spoken about when audiences got a glimpse a few months ago. Talking about his role at the recently concluded event in Dubai, Akshay said that it’d take him five hours to get ready to play his character. “It’d take me three and half hours to put on the makeup and another hour and a half to take it off.” In order to play his role, he said he didn’t have to rehearse much because all he was required to do, was follow the instructions of Shankar blindly.

The film’s audio was launched in a grand manner last month in Dubai. It has also been confirmed that the film’s trailer which was planned to be released on December 12, to coincide with the birthday of Rajinikanth, has been postponed. 2.0 will mark the return of Rajinikanth as Dr Vaseegaran and Chitti. Made on a lavish budget of Rs. 450 crores, the film which has music by AR Rahman, will also be simultaneously released in Hindi and Telugu.
