Weathermen have warned of rain and thunderstorm activity across south peninsular India in all the five southern states of Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu for Saturday and Sunday.
The Indian Meteorological Department in its midday summary and forecast bulletin on Saturday said that due to the current western disturbance and ongoing moisture incursion from Arabian Sea, rainfall and thunderstorm activity are likely to increase over peninsular India from Saturday with some isolated areas seeing heavy rainfall.
Fishermen have been warned not to venture into the sea off the coasts of Karnataka, Kerala and Lakshadweep.
Andhra Pradesh
According to the IMD, thunderstorm with gusty winds (30-40 kmph), and lightning are very likely to occur at isolated places over coastal Andhra on Saturday as well as Sunday.
However, heatwave conditions are very likely to prevail at pockets in Chittoor, Kurnool and Rayalaseema districts.
Telangana
Thunderstorms accompanied with gusty winds (30-40 kmph) and lightning very likely in isolated pockets in Warangal, Peddapalle, Mahabubabad, Nalgonda, Karimnagar, Nagarkurnool districts and surrounding areas.
However, the IMD warned that heat wave conditions are very likely to prevail in parts of Adilabad, Asifabad, Nirmal, Khammam, Jangaon, Nalgonda and some other districts.
Karnataka
According to the Met Department, till Sunday 8.30 am, thunderstorm with gusty winds speed reaching up to 30-40 kmph, and lightning are likely at isolated places over Bengaluru Rural, Bengaluru Urban, Chikkamagaluru, Chamarajanagara,Chikkaballapura, Chitradurga, Davanagere, Hassan, Kodagu, Kolar, Mandya, Mysuru, Shivamogga, Ramanagara and Tumakuru districts.
Tamil Nadu
The IMD has said that for Saturday, thunderstorm accompanied with gusty winds speed reaching 40-50 kmph and lightning are likely at isolated places in Salem, Dharmapuri, Namakkal, Karur, Madurai, Theni, Dindigul, Tiruppur, Coimbatore, Nilgiris, Virudhunagar and Tirunelveli districts.
For Sunday, light to moderate rain is likely to occur at isolated places in Dharmapuri, Krishnagiri, Namakkal, Theni, Dindigul, Coimbatore, Nilgiris, Virudhunagar and Tirunelveli district.
Kerala
For Saturday, thunderstorm accompanied by rain and gusty winds with speed reaching 30-40 kmph is likely in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Idukki and Pathanamthitta districts.
The Met Department has said that thunderstorm and lightning will continue at isolated places all over the state till Monday.
