The demise of former President Dr APJ Abdul Kalam on Monday evening has sent the nation into mourning. Radio channel Indigo 91.9 did away with their regular programming as soon as news of Kalam’s passing reached them. “We stopped providing ‘entertainment’ on the channel as soon as we heard of his demise,” said Kiran Sreedhar, Programming Director of the station, to TNM. He mentions that the channel was resorting to programming that would be more of a fitting tribute to the former President. “He was a great man, contributed a lot to society and it was our duty to pay our respects,” Sreedhar added. He elaborates that the channel got several people who had personally interacted with Dr Kalam to share their experiences about the man. “Basically we celebrated the great life of Dr Kalam,” he says.
