Anisha Sheth | The News Minute | June 20, 2014 | 8.19 pm ISTThe lecturer who had filed complaints against journalists for defaming and harassing her in connection with her work as a member of the paid news monitoring committee, has been sacked by the college where she works.Swathi H J had filed two separate cases of defamation and harassment against eight journalists in Madikeri. She had alleged that she was being targeted by the journalists named in the complaint because she was a member of the Media Certification and Monitoring Committee, to which she had been appointed in March, for the Lok Sabha elections.Read The News Minute story hereSwathi told The News Minute that she had been working in Field Marshall Cariappa College as a guest lecturer since 2008. She said that because she was a temporary lecturer, she had no documentation, not even a letter of appointment.Swathi said that on Thursday, after the police made inquiries with some of the students in connection with her complaint, the principal summoned her to the office and told her “she should not come to the college from tomorrow”.“If they did not want me to teach there, they should have told me from the beginning of the year itself. Why tell me to take classes since Monday?” Swathi said. She added that she had been taking classes and signing the teachers’ attendance register since Monday when the term began.The Principal of Field Marshall Cariappa College Parvati Appaiah confirmed that Swathi’s appointment had been terminated. She said that Swathi had been working in the college for two or three years. She said that the college had been waiting for a university order, which had not come.Asked if the management’s decision had anything to do with the FIR Swathi had filed against journalists, Appaiah said: “Why don’t you ask her that?”But when asked that it was the management which had decide to terminate her sevices, Appaiah said: “We don’t tell everything to everybody. If you want (such information) we don’t reply unless it is in writing.”When this correspondent offered to email her the questions, she cut the call.
