A teenage Dalit girl died in Bengaluru after reportedly consuming abortion pills allegedly given to her by the man with who she had an affair with. Following the death, parents of the girl protested in front of the man’s house in Veeralagollahalli near Gowribidanur in Chikkaballapura district on Tuesday.

The deceased, identified as Geetha, hailed from the same district and was working in an NGO in Bengaluru.

Deccan Herald reported that Geetha was in love with her neighbour, Naresh, who is a bus driver. Naresh’s family objected to the relationship and got him married to another woman from Andhra Pradesh last year. However, Naresh and Geetha continued their affair.

Avinash, PSI, Gowribidanur Rural police station, said that when Geetha informed Naresh about the pregnancy, he offered her some pillson Wednesday. She fell sick on Thursday and had to be hospitalised. She died on Monday, reported The Times of India.

The police said that the girl’s family protested with the girl’s body in front of Naresh’s house. They are asking the police to take action against him.

TOI reported that Naresh has been taken into custody.
