In yet another endorsement of Hyperloop India’s commitment to put India on the global map of futuristic transport technology, Chennai-based Hindustan University has inked a sponsorship deal with Hyperloop India and Workbench Projects to enable the team to participate in the final stage of the SpaceX Hyperloop Competition Weekend in Hawthorne, California.

Hindustan University, the pioneers of Aeronautical Engineering in India, have provided an assistance of Rs. 11.5 lakh to the Hyperloop Team, and see the sponsorship as a progressive step towards promoting innovation and encouraging students to work towards the future of global transport.

Signing the MOU, Ashok Verghese, Director, Hindustan University, appreciated the innovative initiative by the student team of Hyperloop India and expressed hope that the team shall make the nation proud by winning the competition. He said, “As a country poised towards growth, India has to encourage innovation to bring about solutions to its diverse problems. Also, the purpose of engineers is to resolve those problems in a technically feasible and commercially viable mode." 

“It is the innate duty of higher education institutions to identify and nurture innovative talents among students and encourage them to work upon finding effective solutions which shall pace up our development agenda,” he added. Wishing the best to the contesting team, he also appreciated the initiatives by Workbench Projects team in supporting innovation.

Starting small in Pilani, Hyperloop India has grown to become the largest student-driven multi-disciplinary team of its kind, constituting of students and faculty advisors from the top engineering and business schools of the country.

The OrcaPod designed by the Hyperloop India team shall be unveiled in the last week of July 2017 at Bengaluru.

Pavan Kumar, Founder-CEO and Anupama Gowda, Co-founder, Workbench Projects, Bengaluru, expressed their thanks on behalf of the Hyperloop India team for the sponsorship support. Pavan said, “Such a positive support from a premier higher educational institution like Hindustan University provides a lot of motivation to encourage innovation.”

Anupama appreciated the enthusiasm of the team at Hindustan University to support Hyperloop India team and expressed happiness to be associated through this initiative.

Dr. N Vasudevan, Dean (Academics), Dr. M Ramakrishnan, Professor & Head, SIEMENDES, Dr. MK Badrinarayanan and Mr. SK Shankar, Coordinators of the Hindustan Technology Business Incubator (HTBI) were present during the signing event.
