The News Minute | March 13, 2015 | 4.28 pm ISTPeople in the state will have to shell out more for transport in the coming year as the state government has increased the taxes on fuel in the current budged.Presenting his 8th budget in a political career spanning over three decades, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah who also holds the finance portfolio, announced that the taxes on diesel and petrol would be raised by one percent. BBMP, and the BWSSB and Namma Metro have also been given funds to the tune of Rs 4,770 crore, for various projects. The government has also announced a study chair in the name of the late Jnanapith writer U R Ananthamurthy. The state government has also hiked VAT on cigarettes, beedis and gutka by 3 percent, raising the tax to 20 percent.
