The News Minute | January 14, 2015 | 04:48 pm ISTKerala Government’s Chief Whip P.C. George opined on Wednesday that the state should stop its hunt for Maoists. George told the media that such Leftist extremism should be fought back with ideologies and not weapons. He also added that huge amounts of money should not be spent for procuring weapons to fight Maoists. The Kerala Congress politician credited the Maoists for their pro-people stand, especially in the Adivasi issue and said that their demands cannot be questioned. The politician also added that the state’s bureaucratic services have in fact improved after the onset of Maoist attacks. But it looks like George’s statement has not gone down well with the Congress leadership in the state. Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala has retorted saying that the state shall stop fighting the Maoists the moment the latter stop fighting the state. The Minister also added that though the Maoist rebellion should be met with ideological power, all attacks on the state shall be dealt with an iron fist.Tweet
