Now, Chennai Metro commuters can get real-time updates on train timings on app

The app will now offer real-time information including delays, so that commuters can plan their journey accordingly.

Now, say goodbye to long hours of waiting at Chennai’s metro stations, thanks to the latest update on the CMRL app. The Chennai Metro Rail Ltd. (CMRL) has introduced new updates to their app which will provide real-time information on all arrivals and delays of trains at all stations in the city. The app will also let you recharge your smart card and send complaints to metro authorities in case something goes wrong.

Earlier, the CMRL app only had a daily train timetable. It used to tell commuters the distance covered, cost of journey and names of the station as well. However, commuters had frequent problems with the timings as the trains would come 10 minuets after the app alerted the commuters. With complaints coming in from commuters, the app has updated itself to offer real-time information on trains.

Now, the app will offer real-time information including delays, so that commuters can plan their journey accordingly, a metro official told TOI.

The app was introduced back in May 2017 and was updated periodically. With the latest update, commuters now will no longer have to wait in long queues to recharge their smart cards but can do so through the app. However, passengers may have to swipe their card at the metro station to update their card balance before boarding the train.

The app is also updated with a travel planner, which will guide the commuter through the different stations along the route. It will also reportedly have information to various feeder services which includes buses, cabs and share autos near metro services and details on where they are operating.

If you commute on suburban trains, Chennai MRTS is another app that provides the timings of the various Chennai suburban trains.
