Reports that Vijay Sethupathi will be making a cameo appearance in Mani Ratnam’s upcoming film had his fans happy. However, it now looks like he would not be playing a cameo but a full-fledged role! Yes, that’s right! The director is keen on extending Vijay’s role in the movie so that he will have more screen time. So, it looks like his role is being tweaked a bit.

To be produced by Mani Ratnam’s home banner Madras Talkies, the film has a bevy of stars in the cast including Simbu, Fahadh Faasil, Aravind Samy, Jyothika and Aishwarya Rajesh.

The yet-to-be-titled film is expected to go on to the floors later this month with the team busy with pre-production work. Reports are that Mani Ratnam has conducted an acting workshop for all the actors in the film and is now ready to go ahead with the shooting.

Oscar winning music composer AR Rahman is already onboard to compose the tunes for this flick. He has been camping in Goa along with director Mani Ratnam and lyricist Vairamuthu to compose the songs, say sources. Touted to be an action thriller, the film will have Santosh Sivan cranking the camera.

There are rumours that the film also stars senior actors Prakash Raj and Jayasudha, who have collaborated on several occasions. Apparently, they’ll be seen playing a couple and Arvind Swami, Fahadh and Simbu will be seen as their sons.

It may be mentioned that this is the first time Simbu and Vijay Sethupathi would be working with the maverick director and this is one of biggest factors for movie buffs to look forward to the film. While the shooting is expected to commence later this month, the film’s release is slated to be around mid 2018 if all goes well.

Mani Ratnam’s last outing was Kaatru Veliyidai which had Karthi and Adithi Rao Hydari playing the lead pair. The film was released in April last year.
