The News Minute | December 19, 2014 | 8.40 pm ISTCampuses in Kerala and politics is inseparable. Most campuses have a vibrant student political class, that works many times in tandem with mainstream political parties. It took Kerala by surprise when news broke that the colleges under the Sree Narayana Dharma Paripalana Yogam (SNDP) has banned politics. A circular regarding this matter, bearing the signature of college manager Vellapally Natesan was displayed at the colleges on Thursday. But, Vellappally Natesan , General Secretary of SNDP, a caste based social organization in Kerala has denied the news on complete ban of politics in the colleges under the SNDP trust. He told The News Minute that there is no intention to implement the complete ban and he blamed the media for distorting facts.“Media distorts fact. My intention through the circular was to introduce some regulations for student politics in the college premises. It is not a ban or prohibition of political activities” he said.He has also stated that the SN trust will not permit aggressive and vicious political activities inside the campus.“We prohibit any kind of malpractices like destruction of college properties in the name of politics. Other than that everyone has the freedom to have their own politics” he added.According to the new regulations, students are not allowed to assemble or hold meetings in college buildings and cannot conduct educational strikes without prior permission. The circular also mentions that money to repair any damages to the college property would be extracted from the students in the case of violence among students. In spite of all these regulations in place, Nadeshan insists there is a total ban and said that these all are just regulations and not prohibition. He claimed that all the regulations implemented are for the academic success of the colleges.
