Nisha Sarangh’s allegations on TV director: Kerala women’s body asks cops to probe
Two days after Malayalam television actor Nisha Sarangh alleged that the director of her show misbehaved with her on the sets, the state Women’s Commission has decided to suo-motu file a complaint on Monday.
Based on reports from the media, MC Josephine, the chairperson of the Women’s Commission has said that she has asked the state police chief for a report regarding this issue.
According to a report by Malayalam channel Mangalam, Josephine said that atrocities faced by women in their workplaces is a matter of great concern and that the police should take strong action in these cases.
Actor Nisha Sarangh, who plays one of the central characters in the serial Uppum Mulagum that airs on Flowers TV, made startling revelation in an exclusive interview to Reporter TV on Saturday.
She accused the director of the show, R Unnikrishnan of misbehaving with her on the sets and also alleged that she was removed from the show without any explanation in revenge for ignoring his advances and also for complaining against him to the channel’s head, Sreekantan Nair.
"Earlier, he has behaved inappropriately with me. You know, the kind of behaviour that certain bad men show towards women. I resisted it, but he was the kind who would come back again. So I clearly told him I don't like the way he is treating me. And he got angry when I reacted, so he started calling me names. This is when I complained to the channel head," Nisha alleged.
"He used to send me inappropriate text messages on my mobile phone. I never replied to it, why should I reply to such inappropriate messages from a man like that? I have many times told him not to do so. But it continued. He also resorted to addressing me disrespectfully and started calling me names. When I complained to the channel head, he warned the director, the latter started holding a grudge towards me," Nisha said.
Following the revelation by the actor, several prominent personalities from the television and film industry came out in support of Nisha Sarangh, including the Women in Cinema Collective (WCC).
