With candidates using social media extensively for election campaigns, MV Nikesh Kumar - LDF candidate from Azhikode constituency in Kannur – has over the past few weeks gone a step ahead and made videos in news format highlighting the issues faced by his constituency.

In the video posted on Thursday however, Nikesh decided to test the waters. Literally.

With practiced ease, accompanied by a gripping background score, he climbs down a well, draws water in the bucket already suspended into the well, points it to the camera, and declares, “The people of this constituency are forced to drink this unclean water.” He then climbs out of the well and smiles triumphantly.

Echoing the sentiment in the video, a voter narrates how the water turns a mild yellow during summer and that none of the political representatives have done anything in this regard.

Cut to Nikesh’s piece-to-camera, oh, did we forget that he is a former journalist? In his customary journalistic style, Nikesh goes on to explain that the salt content in the water has made life miserable for the people.

Social media users did not take long to point out that his well-climbing stint was uncalled for. Memes and trolls followed, no, rained down on Nikesh (along with all the salt in the world!)
