A shocking incident in Kamareddy, Telangana, on Sunday, rendered another new-born motherless, increasing the incidence of deaths post delivery due to alleged medical negligence in the state.
According to reports, 24 year-old Vallakti Sandya came for delivery to her maternal home in Kamareddy. As the delivery date drew closer, her parents took her to the Government Hospital in Kamareddy, where she passed away after giving birth through a C section surgery, according to hospital authorities.

Sandya’s kin, however, allege, medical negligence from the doctors as the reason for her death.

“She was okay post the delivery and even spoke to us. Following this, the bleeding started and the doctors took her to another ward, saying that there was a problem with the stitches. By around 9.30 - 10:00 pm, they declared her dead,” M Mahesh, Sandya’s brother-in-law told TNM.

“It is only the doctors’ negligence that has lead to her death and left the baby motherless. If they could not handle the case, they should have referred us to another hospital,” he added.

Following protests by family members demanding justice for the deceased, the police even arrested some of the protestors to quell the tension in the hospital, according to Etv.

The family of the deceased hope that the government will take action against the hospital authorities. "We don’t want anybody else to face what we faced, the government should take action against the staff whose neglect has resulted in this,” Mahesh said.

However, the hospital authorities have denied these allegations.

Speaking to TNM, the superintendent of the hospital, who spoke to the concerned doctors said that the woman succumbed to a cardiac arrest, soon after the delivery.

"The doctors attended to her promptly. Soon after the C-section, while she was recovering from anaesthesia, she suffered a cardiac arrest,” he said.

However, he also assured that a thorough inquiry into the case is underway.

When TNM brought the issue to the notice of the Kamareddy District Collector, his office informed us that he would soon seek a report on the incident.

In a similar case of medical negligence which took in Khammam, Telangana, earlier, a new born baby fell to death as the mother was forced to deliver on a bench.

The infant rolled and fell off the steel bench on which his mother N Nagamani was forced to deliver after she was refused a bed, the family alleged.
