When 24-year-old Jizil Mathew went missing in Kerala in March, it gave rise to several conspiracies theories- from her having been abducted to eloping with a co-worker. Late last month, following an investigation into her case, the government told the Kerala High Court that Mathew had neither been kidnapped, nor was there any threat to her life. The police were then still trying to trace her. Now, Mathew has come forward and laid all other theories regarding her having gone missing to rest. Mathew on Wednesday told the Kochi High Court that she had not eloped but ran away from her house on her own will. Without taking anyone's help, she then came to Chennai, where she is currently staying in a paying guest accommodation and is looking for a job.  She told the court that her parents did not value her decision and got her married to her now husband Jobin Johny. She said that she was also going to initiate divorce proceedings against him. If the court protects her rights and her life, Mathew said, she'd be willing to return home. On the morning of March 5, Johny dropped Jizil at the Cochin Special Economic Zone where she had to attend an interview from where she went missing. TA Alexander, Jizil's brother, had then posted a message on social media stating that Jizil had gone missing and also attached her photograph in a black kurta, which went viral and was subsequently picked up by several media organisations.
