Filmmaker AR Murugadoss, who is busy wrapping up Vijay’s Thalapathy 62, is expected to team up with Rajinikanth next. Last year, in an interview with Deccan Chronicle, the Ghajini filmmaker had revealed that he had a project in the pipeline with superstar Rajinikanth.

In the interview, he said that he had already narrated the script to Thalaivar and has even got his nod. “After his two films, Kaala and 2.0, hit the screens, my project will start.”

It’ll be an interesting combination to watch out for, as the two will be joining hands for the first time. While there has been no official confirmation from Murugadoss or Rajinikanth since the interview, reports about their collaboration have resurfaced now. According to the industry grapevine, things are finally falling in place for Murugadoss’s project with the star. Sources say Rajinikanth’s next film is most likely with Murugadoss and it could very well be his last film before he hangs up his boots to concentrate on his political career.

Last seen playing a slumlord-turned-gangster in Kaala, Rajinikanth has commenced shooting for Karthik Subbaraj’s next film in Darjeeling. The team will soon head to Dehradun and spend the rest of the month shooting important portions of the film across the northern belt.

Murugadoss, meanwhile, is busy working with Vijay for the third time on their new project. Tipped to be a political thriller, the film is gearing up for a Deepavali release. Following the debacle of Spyder, Murugadoss’s bilingual thriller with Mahesh Babu, he has pinned high hopes on Thalapathy 62 and is confident of bouncing back strongly. Thalapathy 62 was officially launched with a pooja in Chennai in January. Sun Pictures, best known for producing Rajinikanth’s Enthiran, is bankrolling the project on a lavish budget.

While it has already been confirmed that Girish Gangadharan, the young lensman whose recent work includes Kali and Solo, has been signed on for the project, editor Sreekar Prasad, who has worked with Murugadoss in projects such as Thuppakki and Spyder, is also part of the film. The project also stars Varalaxmi Sarathkumar and Radha Ravi in pivotal roles. It is being rumoured that Varalaxmi may be seen playing a negative role in the film, which is currently being filmed in Chennai.
